How to Write Concluding Sentence

Concluding sentence finalizes the paragraph. The writer may restate the topic sentence, summarize what has been written, make a prediction about the topic, or make a suggestion about the topic.

Sample paragraph:
Basic Needs
People have three basic needs. First, people need foods. They need rice, bread, meat, and drinks to satisfy their hunger.  Second, people shelter. They need houses to stay and protect from unfavorable weather conditions. Last, people need clothes. They need things to wear to protect themselves from sunlight, rain, and coldness. In short, ....

The paragraph above has no concluding sentence; therefore, we can use either of the four ways to write a concluding sentence.

[1] Restating the topic sentence:
Rewrite the topic sentence in different words. For example,
In short, to live requires these three things.

[2] Summarizing what has been written:
Summarize the main ideas discussed in the paragraph. For example,
In short, foods, clothes, and shelters are the necessary things for anyone.

[3] Making a prediction about the topic:
The prediction must be related to the topic; it is not something new. For example,
In short, ones may not think of other needs before satisfying these three needs.

[4] Making a suggestion about the topic:
The prediction must be related to the topic; it is not something new. For example,
In short, ones should help one another to meet these needs.
